The glyphs covering the interior tell the story of the Ancient Egyptian's predecessors, the "primeval ones". It is undoubtedly why even in Ptolemaic times, the Greeks could be moved to construct a new and complex temple.

In his articles Patterson mentioned a book by British Egyptologist E. A. Reymond , The Origins of the Egyptian Temple , in which translations of the texts of Edfu were given. Alas, she was unable to recover his phallus, so she fashioned one out of wood.

The ancient writings speak of an "island of the gods" once great and prosperous before a great tragedy causes the island to be swallowed by … There are different theories. Isis searched the length of Egypt and beyond for Osiris’ pieces and – using both magic and love – reassembled him.

For this was, and remains, a place of magic.

Interestingly, whereas the previous temple was aligned east-west, the Ptolemaic complex was aligned north-south. That time is now. Obviously these were not actually gods, they were advanced humans. So how does this tie into Solon? Imhotep, of course, is best-known as the engineer who built the first Step Pyramid at Saqqara for King Zoser. In a chapel behind the sanctuary there is a low pedestal, also from an earlier structure, on which stands a reproduction of the barque of Horus – the Ark of Horus.

Apart from its unusual orientation, Edfu largely does conform to the standard Egyptian temple. Inside the Holy of Holies, where in the Temple of Solomon stood the Ark of the Covenant, at Edfu was a grey granite naos shrine, four metres high, which would have contained the cult statue of Horus, with cartouches of Nectanebo II of the 30th Dynasty.

The Edfu Building Texts speak of the “First Time”, or Tep Zepi, which was the period from the first stirring of the High God in the Primeval Waters to the settling of Horus upon the throne and the redemption of Osiris by Horus. Which is pretty much exactly when Plato says that Atlantis sunk under the waves. The ritual involved chanting a hymn to the sun and presenting the gods with offerings and was said to activate the temple. Built in post-Dynastic times, it harkens back to pre-dynastic times, if not the time of the gods themselves, and the greatest “golden child” of all: Horus. Indeed, one of the bynames of the temple complex of Edfu was the “chest of the son of Isis”.

The story inscribed on the most recent temple's walls was said to have been transcribed from an ancient text (and I mean ancient even in ancient times) scrawled on animal skin that was crumbling away and they decided to preserve it in stone.

For researchers of lost civilisations, however, it is not the Temple of Solomon that intrigues them, but the so-called “Edfu Building Texts”. The temple complex is also known for inscriptions that argue that its lay-out was actually designed by a mythical, pre-dynastic group of people, known as the Shemsu Hor, the “Followers of Horus” – which some authors have identified as refugees from Atlantis. This is an unusual orientation, and it is believed that it was done to underline a connection with the Temple of Denderah, which faces north, and which was constructed shortly before Edfu. The time is also there to begin to peel back the layers, and see what is at the core of this and so many other temples. The Time Returns…   Moon is traveling through Capricorn today. Well, the Temple of Edfu is just the most recent in a series of temples that have been built on top of each other throughout history, meaning theres almost always been a Temple here as long as there has been people in Egypt. The twin entrance pylons climb to a stunning height of 36 metres and are covered with the standard imagery of the king smiting his enemies before Horus.

It is certain that Plato added small elements into the story when he published it in Timaus and Critius, such as the names of certain Gods like Poseidon, who is not even an Egyptian god. They also relate that the region of Edfu was once inhabited by the so-called “Shemsu Hor”, or “Followers of Horus”. Specifically, Edfu was built in according with a plan “dropped down from heaven to earth near the city of Memphis”.

Regardless of this, indeed the Edfu building texts have great parallels with the story of Atlantis such as the island being sank into the depths of the ocean and the island being built upon concentric circles etc.Either way then, its still likely to be a different account of the same event described by Solon and Plato.Interesting you say there was a meteor, since around the richat structure there’s multiple craters (Aouelloul, tenoumer, and Temimichat-Ghallaman) that some people speculate could have caused the city’s destructionWhatever the city was, it was probably destroyed during the event that caused the younger dryas barrier which would have been something much bigger. Or could that be an Ark of the Covenant, as this was the ceremonial barge used to carry Horus’ statue during the processions? Global catastrophic change, the end of multiple civilizations.New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be castPress J to jump to the feed.
