this canoe was just what I was looking for at a great price the only problem I have with it is it wieghs 58# instead of the advertised 43# Check out online for "guide 119 modifications" to see some really nice things people are doing with their boats.
Dick's Sporting Goods sells the exact same canoe (contact Old Town if you doubt this) under the name of Guide 119 for $400, and sometimes on sale for less. Part of the agreement between OTC and Dick’s prevents it from being listed on either website so it is only available in the actual stores. everytime we want to go canoing it is always 3 or 5 or 7 people wanting to go.

The canoe on the shelf at Dick’s was indeed a Discovery that was molded in the Guide Series Camo exclusively for Dick’s and was only available there.
I ordered a new cane seat from Harmony and replaced the angler seat. Do some research and don't get taken advantage of. Prime members enjoy FREE Delivery and exclusive access to music, movies, TV shows, original audio series, and Kindle books. The only thing I might change is the seat, hence four stars instead of 5. I plan to purchase one from a Dick’s Store here in NJ soon but wondered what you thought about the seat since that is the only concern I have seen in other reviews. Slid right out. All that said, the 119 has a low profile for a canoe and is not greatly effected by the wind relative to other canoes that I own or have paddled over the years.I am heading down to dicks in the morning.
The Discovery/ Guide 119 is a fantastic canoe. I have had 3 of these and the reason for 3 is every time I trade, sell or give to a son I miss it too much and get another. Looks like Im gonna have to pay the $240.
at the time of this review i have taken two lake floats with this boat (red), one in a public park lake with a 2 mile circumference and the other on pyramid lake in northern nv.NO YOKE. Great one boat no doubt!
And thanks to our construction process, it's tough without being too heavy. We paddle in the ocean and it is quite stable through large boat wakes and tidal currents.

I don't know how you could be disappointed with this little canoe unless you mind the weight (which isn't too bad and irrelevant on the water). It is not as fast as the more expensive canoes, doesn't track as well and weighs twenty pounds more, but for six or eight hundred dollars less, I am a happy camper.

Before you go check out the Old Town Canoe website and come back to me saying there is no such boat, let me clarify a little bit. Combining the best of both worlds, Old Town delivers the ideal grab-n-go watercraft for anglers and hunters alike.
It has only one seat. Maybe not as fast as my kayak but there are times when space and relaxation are priority.

I kneel in a reverse position from seated when in faster water. People who bought this item also bought (85) Carolina Mfg. Also put a storage bag that mounts to the bottom of seat and hangs down bellow it.
Read all the reviews and tried several things. I next went to the Old Town site only to find it missing there, too. They have higher beams therefore they have more sail area.
Thanks for your review. I walked in and there was a sign on the boat I wanted that said it was on sale for $350. I thought it sat a bit low and figured I would put a cushion under it but here is what one of the review guys said, “One trip on the water and I couldn’t stay in the plastic seat. MichaelNice boat, I have tried every Dicks in my area (within 100 miles), and can not find one.
Handles great! At this point, I had decided that I had to replace my old Discovery and I might actually be able to afford to do so if I sold my kayak.

Wind is often a problem with canoes. It's even well-suited for a double-bladed paddle. Recommend adding rubber washers between rear seat bolts and bracket about 5/8'' to tilt seat back. looking for a summer on the erie canal! Added a cup holder similiar to yours and a padded seat that fits over the plastic one.
The keel line helps this short boat track well as does the lack of rocker. The canoe is great, offering good initial and secondary stability, a comfortable seat that is neither too low nor too high, and good construction. Compact and fun to paddle, the Discovery 119 has been a long time favorite. Read honest and unbiased product … Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features.
