At first you get that control, the highs, the feeling your life is more in focus. Collins gives a career defining performance and the depth of her role is the saving grace in an otherwise odd film. Instead, it was something else Noxon depicts onscreen in a fantastical sequence: an out-of-body experience. In the end, this film proves at Netflix knows how to pick a good property to showcase. Being thin is associated with morality, discipline, success, and social capital. When a tragic element is needed in order to motivate a character, this film goes for it and it can be quite the challenge to sit through at times.

Even when to the outside world, it doesn't look like you're sick anymore. We see what she does, we see her outward "attitude," but that's about it.There have been plenty of "eating disorder" movies since "Best Little Girl in the World," but the narrative hasn't embedded itself in storytelling culture in the same way that drug or alcohol addiction narratives have. Other than that (and what, exactly, was that? If this is a story about recovery, the film ends at the beginningI've watched women try to recover from an eating disorder, and the hard part isn't deciding to change. Then ED takes over your life until you are locked in that prison and told by ED that you will never escape and nobody will ever want to visit you because you put yourself there and threw away the key. Yes, there is a sense of repetition, but I found that Lily Collins distracted me from that most of the time, due to her stellar performance. It makes you feel strong and focused...on the wrong thing of course.

There are aspects of this approach that are refreshing. It was the only time that I had compassion for that body. She’s a straight shooter, too.
The wider culture participates in perpetuating these illnesses, and so maybe that’s one of the reasons why Hollywood—a place filled with thin women—is hesitant to address the issue.
