It is the way the wisdom gets passed along. I started reading a little on the weekends because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened to Minli, her family, and the dragon, but when I closed the story I felt like I had just read something really profound!
A set of twins from the village manage to trick the Green Tiger down an abandoned well and the next day take Minli and Dragon to Never-Ending Mountain, which turns out to be very close to the village.
When she does so, the goldfish tells her directions to Never-Ending Mountain, where a wise immortal known as the Old Man of the Moon lives. It gives us a mental picture of china. She befriends a dragon who helps her on her path, and in the end, her loyalty to him greatly pays off.
It was written and illustrated by Grace Lin and published in 2009. You can only get the full effect by reading it, which I highly recomend. Much to the displeasure of Ma, Minli spends her precious money on a goldfish.
