D'oh.Mel Brooks' 3rd masterpiece. Although I am a fan of colourization I think it would be a crime to colourise this movie, black & white really does it justice. My understanding from other website images is that the "40th Anniversary Edition" actually says that on the slip cover. I'm only echoing what everybody has said about this movie. It helps if you are familiar with the Frankenstein story and films.

This film is beyond questionable for modern sensibilities. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 23, 2011 Funny, I realized I NEEDED this movie after Gene passed, ran out and bought it, only to realize, I already owned it!
The sets look very similar to those that James Whale would've used, the dialogue is hilarious and expertly written by both director Mel Brooks and star Gene Wilder, the music suits the tone of the film to a tee and the entire cast are well suited to their roles... and what a cast it is! Some truly laugh out loud moments make this highly recommended. Lovingly made in black and white , knee deep in classic comedy performers .full of wild silliness and starring Gene Wilder . Young Frankenstein is a great parody of all the fantastic gothic horrors based around the Frankenstein character and everything about the film, is just so close to those movies I love. The five Bennet sisters - including strong-willed Elizabeth and young Lydia - have been raised by their mother with one purpose in life: finding a husband. 5 / 5 stars 92% 93%. Hilarious. Yes it’s an old film but it’s still funny now, a couple of lines do feel dated, however I imagine almost anyone who has seen it will probably agree the police inspector makes it worth a watch just for the commitment to the scenes.
