Just because Nerites are small they will increase the bio-load and they will tax the aquatic environment like other inhabitants in the tank. The Nerite Snail lifespan is about one year, give or take. One of I originally bought only three or four snails to keep my 55 gallon fresh water aquarium clean. A dead snail will not be affixed to the glass or any hard surface. Thanks, RobertDo snails need to be quarantined before you put them in your aquarium, like fish? Make sure to provide plenty of caves to act as hiding spots, even though most of their time will be spent out and about.Similarly to saltwater setups, your freshwater tank should also have a fine-grained sanded substrate.Plants aren’t crucial but they’re an easy way to make a tank look natural and colorful. They won’t bother any of your fish. You might sometimes notice your snail appears to have fallen over, their muscle foot is very flexible and they can usually flip themselves back over. They will breed and lay eggs, but the larvae don’t usually survive in freshwater. You can either let your snails reproduce in freshwater and move the eggs , or just start the process with snails that are already acclimatized to living in saltwater.Once hatched, the young are very small, to the point where they might get sucked into the filter inlet. Unless they are mating, or the tank is too small for their population, it is not likely you will see these snails grouped together. Tiger Nerite shells are accented with black areas forming patterns resembling tiger stripes or leopard spots.A Zebra Nerite Snail shell is golden-brown in color. Nerites produce waste like other living organisms. If you notice this then try adding calcium supplements, such as calcium sulfate, or use a calcium substrate. You also need to look out for white spots on shells, as Older snails are more likely to get a disease called One reason why these snails are so popular for freshwater aquariums is because fish stores often tell people they won’t breed in freshwater tanks. This is not necessarily true. This makes Nerite Snails a smart choice if you want to add a snail population to your tank.Nerite Snails tank mates can include most invertebrates and fish appropriate for a freshwater community tank.
