This anger escalates throughout the film based on the decisions that Robert makes and that she allows him to take advantage. There was a strong progression of anger that mounted because the Melinda kept putting up with Robert's “mess”.
Just look at the way she was mean, at least for a while, towards young Robert when he brought back her papers.
(Not even circling back to ponder about the damage they have done nor wait for reconciliation.
Everything spirals out of control from there. 'Acrimony' weaves an intricate web of deceit and lies.
I would call it entertaining, but not original.
