Our team reviewed the growing body of evidence that shows that hospital design impacts patient stress, patient and staff safety, staff effectiveness and care quality in order to determine which features to incorporate into the design of Lurie Children’s. We partnered with all our stakeholders and anyone impacted by what we were going to do.Not every expansion project takes into consideration the opinions of those who will be utilizing its space, but we did. The hospital is welcoming and accessible, providing an optimal healing and nurturing environment. We designed our facilities to be kid-friendly — because children deserve their own special place when they’re sick or hurt. The outside garden and play area at the new Packard Children's Hospital, left, and murals, right, sculptures and other elements of nature are meant to foster healing, make families comfortable and ensure that kids can still be kids even, though they're in the hospital.
