I have a 2006 Honda Civic EX I bought new and it has always been maintained at HONDA with 85,000 , miles and it it the shop with a cracked block and no explamation why it sudenly overheated.... and they have offered to pay for 50% of the cost.eventhough its not under warrenty, I think they should pay 100% And give me a 12 month warranty on a new Honda Block/engine....I will be calling the Corp. office today as soon as they open there doors this morning to talk to John Mendel VP fro Honda in Torrance California!!! Median cost of repairs is $4500.I had the same problem with my 2007 Civic EX. They wouldn't even budge an inch. There is no owner cause here, it is due to bad casting, period.

I am concerned about the frequency of this happening before I buy a used 2006 Civic. They offered me 90% so far, but I am not budging for less than 95% This is not a maintenance/neglect issue. On something they knew was faulty... Smh this is an issue for this engine.the blocks were not made thick enough at the water jaskets on the back and front of the block but i just dont understand how we have become such a whiny society that we cant take ownership of a car at 100k plus mileage jesus its just a man made product.and one of the best on the planet.yes honda will usually give some goodwill but if you dont take that offer of 90% they will be completely in thier right to tell you forget it then. Has your stranded you or, caused accident as result of stopping while driving. :( I TOO HAVE JUST DISCOVERED ON 10/23/2009 THAT I HAVE A CRACK IN MY SHORT BLOCK. Honda issued a TSB for "Engine, Cooling System - Overheating/Coolant Loss" and the crack was the source of this issue.
